Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

I hope you and your loved ones had some time to relax over the Spring Recess. As we enter the state testing season, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of these assessments and the vital role each of you plays in supporting your child’s success. State assessments are more than just a measure of performance; they are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their growth, and build habits that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Research consistently shows that taking assessments seriously is connected to future academic success. Studies have found that standardized test performance, when combined with classroom learning, helps predict how students will perform in college and whether they persist through their educational journey. Students who take exams seriously reinforce a simple but powerful idea: when they develop the skills, focus, and perseverance required to perform well on assessments, they build a foundation for long-term achievement.

Equally important is the mindset students bring to these moments. Taking tests seriously fosters goal-setting, resilience, time management, and confidence, which are skills that extend far beyond a single exam. These are the same attributes that help students navigate the challenges of middle and high school, succeed in college, and ultimately thrive in their careers and in life.

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

As we approach the spring season and the week of Easter, I am reminded of the powerful themes this time of year represents across the many traditions and cultures that make up our school district. For some, this is a time of spiritual reflection; for others, it is a celebration of renewal, hope, and new beginnings. Regardless of how this time of year is observed, the season offers a shared opportunity to pause, appreciate growth, and embrace the promise of what lies ahead.

As a community, this is also a time to reflect on the importance of kindness, compassion, and gratitude. In a world that is currently hard to make sense of sometimes, small acts like supporting a neighbor, encouraging a classmate, or expressing appreciation for the smallest of things, especially to those we do not know, help create the positive environment we strive to foster across the Rosemead School District and in our community.

This time of year brings with it a sense of renewal, energy, and possibility. Across our schools, we see our students continuing to grow, not only in their academic learning but also in their confidence, creativity, and connections with one another. When we return from the spring recess, we will begin state testing, and just as nature around us begins to flourish this time of year, I strongly believe our students will, too, as they build confidence, deepen their learning, and demonstrate what they have learned this year.

Rosemead School District Clarifies No Affiliation with El Monte Union High School District or Rosemead High School

Rosemead, California: The Rosemead School District (RSD) is aware of recent news coverage regarding a settlement announced by the California Attorney General’s Office involving the El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) and allegations of systemic sexual abuse connected to Rosemead High School. While the Rosemead School District shares a similar geographic name, it is important to clearly state the following:

Rosemead School District is a separate and independent entity.

 RSD is an elementary school district serving students in grades TK–8.
 RSD is not affiliated with the El Monte Union High School District.
 RSD does not operate Rosemead High School, which is part of EMUHSD.

We understand that the similarity in names may cause confusion within the community, and we want to ensure that our families, staff, and partners have accurate information.

Commitment to Student Safety

The Rosemead School District remains unwavering in its commitment to the safety, well-being, and dignity of every student we serve. Our district maintains:

 Strict adherence to mandating the reporting of all suspected forms of sexual misconduct and abuse
 Ongoing staff training on student safety and professional boundaries
 Clear systems for reporting, investigating, and responding to concerns
 Strong partnerships with local law enforcement and community agencies

Student safety is, and will always be, among our highest priorities.

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

National Nutrition Month is underway, and I thought I would take a moment to highlight how important it is for the district to partner with parents to ensure that students are always offered healthy eating options both at school and at home.

With Childhood obesity affecting nearly 1 in 5 U.S. children, it's important that we work together to ensure our students avoid the excessive consumption of high-calorie, processed foods and lack of physical activity. Childhood obesity can often be compounded by genetics, high stress, and poor sleep. It brings long-term health risks such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and psychological issues like depression, often tracking into adulthood.

During National Nutrition Month, I would encourage you to learn how to make informed food choices and develop healthy eating and physical activity habits for you and your family. I would also encourage you to discover how food and beverage choices can help power your child’s day, and build healthy habits into your day to help you feel great now and in the future. It’s important that you stay healthy for you and those you love!
