Dear Rosemead Families and Community,
I hope you have been enjoying your summer and staying cool at the same time! As the start of the 2026-2027 school year gets closer, I encourage you to take advantage of the many wonderful opportunities our region offers for families to learn, explore, and have fun together—without spending a lot of money. Summer break is a precious time to connect with your children, and families can have some of the best learning experiences when they share time with one another on a family outing.

Here are just a few ideas that you can squeeze in before the school year starts, combining education with entertainment:
● Visit a local library. The Los Angeles County Library and neighboring public libraries offer free story times, STEM activities, arts and crafts, and reading programs for children of all ages.

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

I hope you, your children, and your families have been well and tolerating the heat! Even though it's only been five weeks since school has been out and many of our district personnel took brief but well-deserved vacations (including myself), we have never been disconnected from the important mission we are charged with as we prepare for the upcoming school year. Toward that end, many of our district operations have continued uninterrupted, including construction and beautification projects (I’ll be letting you know about those at the end of the summer, so please stay tuned), meal service, and so many more!

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

Our summer school programs are in full swing, and our teachers are using engaging activities to learn in fun ways! For example, Mrs. Case's 3rd-grade summer school students have been learning about place value and how our base-ten number system is built on groups of ten. To strengthen their understanding, students participated in a hands-on activity called "The Bank." Using base-ten blocks, students counted individual units, then visited Mrs. Case's Bank to exchange ten ones for ten rods and a hundred rods. Their challenge was to represent numbers using the fewest blocks possible, helping them see how grouping by tens makes counting and representing numbers efficient. Learning was fun and interactive as students became mathematicians and bankers while building strong place value skills!

Rosemead, California: The Rosemead School District is pleased to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached with both the Rosemead Teachers Association (RTA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and its Rosemead Chapter 9, marking a significant milestone in the District’s ongoing commitment to supporting its teachers and classified employees, establishing conditions for future student success.

Throughout the process, the District remained committed to listening to the RTA and CSEA negotiating teams and to addressing key priorities identified throughout the negotiations process. The resulting agreement includes a 1.4% salary increase retroactive to July 1, 2025, and another 1% increase beginning on July 1, 2026, for a total increase of 2.4% over last year’s agreement. The District’s commitment to fully cover at least one health care plan for all full-time employees is a clear demonstration of the District’s dedication to offering one of the most competitive compensation packages to attract, retain, and support high-quality teachers and staff who play a vital role in the success of Rosemead students.

The Final Stretch Has Begun

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

Our Open House season began last week with an impressive display of student achievement and talent at Shuey Elementary School. With four of our schools scheduled to hold Open House activities in the next couple of weeks, I would encourage you to make it a point to attend, as these evenings are a meaningful celebration of student learning and academic progress and
should not be missed! The engaging classroom displays and impressive projects are showcases of the dedication, creativity, and care our staff pour into supporting your students every day. They are also a powerful reminder that student success is the result of a collective effort, and I
thank you for working side by side with our teachers, classified staff,  administrators, and families for the important role we all play in creating learning environments where students can thrive.

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

This morning, I accepted an invitation from The Peers, a student band at Janson Elementary. I had a great time jamming with the kids at their last assembly of the year, and it reminded me how a strong elementary music program is an investment we need to make in the future. I’ve played instruments my entire life, and I do not doubt that being able to play an instrument can be a contributor to academic success. Research has consistently shown that students who participate in music education demonstrate stronger skills in areas such as reading, mathematics, memory, attention, and problem-solving. Music instruction develops discipline, perseverance, pattern recognition, and critical thinking while engaging multiple areas of the brain simultaneously. Coupled with the work Melissa Fuentes is already doing at the middle school level, we are on a path to success.

Beginning later this week and into next week, all of our schools will be promoting students to their next grade levels for the 2026-2027 school year. As we celebrate the conclusion of another successful school year, I want to take time to recognize the remarkable growth, perseverance, and accomplishments of all our students.
