2023-2024 Principal's Welcome Back Message

Dear Shuey Community,
I hope this summer note finds you enjoying the summer, rejuvenated, and that you and your child are looking forward to the beginning of the school year. It is an honor to join this extraordinary community as the Principal of Shuey Elementary. I bring to Shuey 30 years of experience in education. I have served as a Principal of a K-8, Assistant Principal, Program Specialist for Special Education, an Elementary School Teacher, and a Paraprofessional.
Our goal as a community is to ensure that all students succeed and meet their maximum potential. The Shuey Staff strives to make a difference in all students' lives by fostering life-long learners. In addition to academic success, social and emotional learning remains a priority. Our sharks are exposed to the 7 Habits of Success and Leader in Me, which teaches students the principles of setting and attaining goals through reflection. Students adopt a mindset that everyone is a leader and has genius; change starts from within; and students are empowered to lead their own learning and develop as a whole person. Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is also embedded into every student's day. Students are recognized and acknowledged for doing the "right thing" even when no one is watching.
One way to remain involved in your child's education is to join and/or support the Shuey PTA. The PTA arranges resources for each teacher to have a room parent, provides school assemblies, school-wide activities, themed weeks, and hosts staff appreciation events. We desire our families to maintain a feeling of connectedness that is unique to Shuey. We would love for every family to find a way to be involved.
In closing, please know that my door is always open for you. I welcome your conversation and input throughout the school year as we always keep our students the primary focus of our home-school collaboration. I look forward to celebrating our collective success during the 2023-2024 school year.Respectfully,
Debra Boeve, Ed.D.
