Principal's Message

  • Welcome Back to School!

We are excited about a new school year.  This year, school begins on August 23, 2017.  Thank you for entrusting us with your children and selecting Encinita as your school.  We take this responsibility seriously and our teachers and staff work hard each day to plan and prepare lessons that engage students to help them grow academically, socially and emotionally.  Our mission is “Inspired to Learn, Empowered to Lead, Enriched to Give.”  The front of our school as well as every classroom has a Giving Tree.  Each class leads a giving project that either helps our community or the world.

We are happy to announce that Encinita is now an official FranklinCovey, 7 Habits Leader in Me Lighthouse School.  Out of 2,158 Leader in Me Schools worldwide, Encinita now joins the small consortium of 151 schools that have reached the Lighthouse status.  Our school utilizes the 7 Habits to create an authentic leadership culture where every student is a leader with roles/jobs in every classroom and school-wide. It has transformed not only the students, but staff and parents as well.

Encinita’s teaching and learning focus is unique.  We utilize a balanced approach to instruction through a workshop model.  Our Writer’s, Reader’s and Math Workshops help our students learn in a collaborative setting.  Every student has an individualized growth plan.  Students take charge of their own learning by maintaining a Leadership Notebook where they set academic and personal goals.

Other distinguishing features of Encinita, is we have a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Design Laboratory, where project-based learning and an integrated cross-curricular instruction takes place.  In order to prepare students for the 21st century, we provide students with technology instruction through our Mac Lab, iPad cart, Macbook laptop carts, iPod Touches and this year we added Chrome Book carts.

We look forward to partnering with all of you again this year.  We hope many more will volunteer.  We cannot do this work alone.  It’s going to be an exciting year of learning and growing.

    Leading together,

    Jennifer Fang, Ph.D.
