About the Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program
-
The Rosemead School District began offering daily one-hour Mandarin Classes in Encinita's after-school program back in 2014. These classes were very popular with Spanish-speaking parents who wanted their children to learn Mandarin along with English-only and bilingual Mandarin-speaking families. Commencing August 2019, Encinita Preschool Program began its first Mandarin Dual Immersion class.
The Rosemead School District is proud to offer a unique, innovative Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion program. Each year we will add the next grade level until we have a complete Preschool - 6th-grade program. In Dual Language Immersion classrooms, students will receive instruction in both English and Mandarin.
The goal is to develop academic proficiency in both languages. Mandarin-speaking students and English-speaking students are placed in the same classroom to promote oral and written fluency in both languages. In addition, all students are expected to meet and exceed grade-level standards. The integration of a 21st-century curriculum and the latest instructional technology will be at the forefront of this program.
The Rosemead School District is located in the San Gabriel Valley just north of the 10 freeway. The Mandarin Dual Language Immersion program is housed at Encinita Elementary School.

Benefits of Dual Langauge Immersion
In recent decades, research studies have demonstrated the significant cognitive benefits derived from early language learning, such as greater academic success, as well as potential long-term educational and career benefits.
In our global 21st century, it's become essential to learn multiple languages. Dual Language Immersion Programs immerse students in daily language practice. The goal of DLI is to develop bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural life-ready leaders who will make a difference in the world.
Enrichment
Students engage in project-based learning and robotics coding activities in the STEAM Lab. We offer 21st-century learning environments using the latest technology and arts integration. We are also a 7 Habits district that develops every child's capacity. All students have the opportunity to showcase their leadership skills on Leadership Day, art shows, and other school functions throughout the year. We promote outdoor learning and gardening, nature studies, sports, and a healthy lifestyle.
